Praha-Bubny Station

Prague has a new railway station for the first time in forty years. Modernisation of the nearly one-kilometre section is the first step towards a fast link between the city centre and the airport, as well as a cornerstone of the new Bubny-Zátory district.

In August 2025, the Railway Administration completed a major upgrade of the line between Bubny and Výstaviště, part of the future rail connection linking central Prague with the airport and Kladno. The new tracks run on elevated viaducts instead of embankments that divided Holešovice for decades. The level crossing on Bubenská Street has disappeared, while the new Nicolas Winton Street now crosses the Bubny-Zátory development area and links the upper and lower parts of the district. The upgrade also increases capacity for more trains towards Kralupy nad Vltavou, Ústí nad Labem and Kladno.

The new Praha-Bubny station was designed by Jakub Cigler Architekti and introduces a solution unique in the Czech Republic: trains enter the first floor of the building itself. The vast 250-by-50-metre concourse stands on pillars, leaving room for shops below. Escalators and lifts take passengers to platforms with glazed waiting rooms. Trees with automatic irrigation bring an unusual touch of greenery indoors. The station also opens formerly inaccessible land. Public space beneath it links Vltavská metro with Argentinská Street and Holešovice Market, complemented by new trees and planting.

The building includes an observation terrace overlooking Holešovice, open Monday to Saturday from 3 to 6 p.m.

The new Praha-Výstaviště stop gives convenient access to the exhibition grounds, Stromovka park and the National Gallery. It has two levels: technical facilities at street level and two partly covered side platforms above. A new footbridge across the stop also creates a pedestrian route from Letná into Stromovka. Bicycle stands, a lift and clear wayfinding complete the station.
