Dvorecký Bridge

A new bridge rose between Podolí and Smíchov in spring 2026. It replaced the ferry between Dvorce and Lihovar and created a direct connection between the left and right banks of the Vltava. Its form refers both to Prague's tradition of arch bridges with a clean, unobstructed silhouette—without cables or towers—and to the Cubist architecture found nearby.

The bridge immediately catches the eye with its angular geometric forms. Its two slender piers are turned to offer as little resistance as possible to the river current. The structure was designed by Tubes and ATELIER 6, whose proposal won an open architectural competition held by the City of Prague in 2018. Despite measuring 388 metres, the reinforced-concrete structure feels light and restrained.

Dvorecký Bridge is intended for trams, buses, pedestrians, cyclists and emergency services. Tram routes 20 and 21 now cross it, linking areas including Dejvice, Smíchov, Podolí, Modřany, Barrandov and Vršovice. Hundreds of buses can also avoid Barrandov Bridge every day, escaping traffic jams and improving reliability.

The bridge is more than transport infrastructure. Its elegant car-free silhouette shows how a bridge can also become high-quality public space. The Podolí bank is designed as a meeting place for people of every generation and interest—from skateboarders, boulderers and winter swimmers to nursery-school outings, readers and audiences at improvised concerts and performances.

On the Zlíchov side, artist Krištof Kintera has designed a light park made from more than 440 street lamps from 80 countries. Entitled Light Removes Darkness, it refers to the timeless struggle between good and evil. A QR code on every lamp post will provide its origin, technical drawings and production photographs. A café, public toilets and steps giving swimmers access to the river are also planned beneath the bridge at Lihovar.
