Cihelna Park

Only a few steps from central Prague's busiest tourist routes lies a pleasant place to pause. Cihelna Park in Malá Strana underwent extensive renewal in 2023, gaining new lawns, cycle and walking paths, thirteen trees, shrubs, rose beds, benches and broad seating steps overlooking the Vltava.

The park lies between Mánes Bridge, the river, and Cihelná and U Lužického semináře streets. The most important building nearby is a former armoury, recalling the area's rich history.

The site has changed dramatically through the centuries. A river ford was followed by a chain bridge and then today's Mánes Bridge, linking the Old Town and Malá Strana. Part of the area was used for timber storage in the 19th century, but its public space long lacked a clear form or purpose. That changed between February 2022 and January 2023, when the park was completely rebuilt for the City of Prague and Prague 1 to a design by architect Marek Tichý.

Another welcome addition is the underpass beneath Mánes Bridge. It allows cyclists and pedestrians to avoid the complicated, busy junction at Klárov, long one of the weakest points on Prague's main A1 cycle route. The new connection also links the park smoothly with Kosárkovo Embankment and makes the Vltava's left bank far easier to walk or cycle along.
